For Immediate Release January 3, 2008 Dallas, TX - January 3, 2008 - 97.9 The Beat's Leading Man Morning Show host Comedian/Actor/Activist Rickey Smiley, of the Rickey Smiley Morning Show, was outraged on his show this morning when he found out that a Black couple living in a North Arlington, Texas neighborhood were being victimized by a neighbor named Grace Head, an elderly white woman who lives a few blocks away. The Black Couple fears that she is not the only one responsible for the racial incidents that have been committed towards them. Rickey Smiley is an advocate for ending racism and feels that this is a much larger problem then in just Arlington, Texas. These types of isolated incidents are happening more frequently across the country and racism and racial injustice in the United States most come to an end once and for all. Along with a group of Dallas Fort Worth pastors, Rickey Smiley and 97.9 The Beat will join an organized march and Town Hall Meeting at the Winbush Elementary tonight January 3, 2008 at 7pm to make a stand against racism. This morning on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show he called on his listeners and leaders in the community to attend and get involved with the racial issues that are still haunting African Americans today. Rickey Smiley feels that this black couple and black people all over the country have the right and the freedom to move into any neighborhood of their choice. He also feels that racism and the unequal treatment of blacks will not be tolerated. Rickey Smiley will also address and challenge political leaders and authorities for not charging individuals with hate crimes when they are committed against blacks. The problems with this case is that back in 2005 Broderick Gamble and his fiancée, Silk Littlejohn's, house caught fire after only two days of them moving in and it was ruled as an accidental blaze caused by an iron left plugged in. Now the couple is questioning whether the fire was accidental or arson due to the more recent incidents that have surfaced. On December 19, 2007, the neighbor Grace Head verbally attacked the couple with racial slurs. Two days later, the new house they're building the couple found the words spray painted on the garage "KILL" "DIE [N-word]". Two days after that this same neighbor attacked Ms. Littlejohn with a two-by-four. Ms. Head was charged with assault, criminal trespass and failure to identify herself to a police officer. After she was released, she was arrested again three days later on a warrant for felony criminal mischief for jumping up and down and sitting on the black couples car. They have also had other problems such as dead animals and trash being thrown in the yard. Broderick Gamble says that they have been trying to push them out the neighborhood for a while. Silk Littlejohn made a comment today on the Rickey Smiley Morning Show that she is not happy with the lack of support from the City of Arlington Officials & feels that they are trying to downgrade the incident & turn it against them.
