December 28, 2007. Looks like Los Angeles may have another crazy comedian on its hands. One of MediaTakeOut.com's faithful wrote us about comedian George Lopez' new comedy show. In it George reportedly uses the Spanish racist term "Mayate." Directly translated, Mayate means "a black beetle" and it's an EXTREMELY DEROGATORY way to refer to African Americans. Here's what our reader saw and heard last night:
George was going on about text alerts - then he said we have to send each other texts saying Mayate Alert, Mayate Alert. Anyway, Mayate means [The N Word] in Spanish. Some of the Mexicans were making sounds like - Whoa I can't believe he just said that. See some Black people think Negro or Nigerita means [The N Word] in Spanish. So, he thought the few black people there wouldn't catch it.He was also like f*ck 'em, they ain't here tonight - and if YOU are here - you're Dominican tonight damn it. Then he went on to promote the racial tensions (as if this needs instigating) in LA. He went on and ON about how Mexicans run L.A. and run the U.S. He also spoke about how young Mexican boys are dying on the front line in Iraq while the Whites are in the back partying (offensive to anyone of any race who has lost loved ones in Iraq).I can take a joke, but I am no longer friend with this Vato. So disappointed - I have love for the LAtinos too.I didn't get a chance to record it, but he's sold out at the Nokia Theater all this week performing up until New Years day. We're not trying to be all P.C. But why did this fool have to go there???

A word is not offensive but whats behind. It's true that now a days certain Mexican-Americans (the ones with little moral values and low self-respect)use the word mayate
to refer to people of African decent.
This is how the word came to exist as known today. Mayates, as known in Mexico, are beetles green in color; not black. When the it's raining season , you see these noisy beetles (mostly around farms) rolling, stacking and making holes in whatever cattle excrement they find. In rural Mexico the word Mayate is used as an adjective to describe a man's tendencies during sex(regardless of race) ; in other words a man who likes to stick it up another person's rear(male or female). It wasn't until the mid '70s when this term was used towards African -Americans, why?
Around the '70s low budget Mexican movies(sexy comedy) began to appear south and north of the border becoming very popular for featuring half naked ladies. Actors such as Alfonzo Sayas, Lalo "el Mimo", and "el Caballo" Rojas made it big. These movies introduced the "Mayate guy" character played by a Mexican looking Mexican ; until comedy decided to make use of the African Man's stereotype.... the 12" long attribute ( not ment to be offensive but rather to add the element of exaggeration in the film). From that point on mostly a tall black muscular guy would play as the mayate role.
I take this opportunity to invite all people reading this blog, to do research, to find out where we really come from and appreciate other cultures. We are all close relatives. Afro- Mexicans? You do the research!!!!
Mayate means, gay, you dumb people. and its not a racist word in spanish......
